If you’re recording videos for your business, you are going to want them to look as sharp and professional looking as possible. However, let’s admit it, it’s easier said than done especially if you are new at recording videos.

While there are lots of things that need to be taken care of to make sure your business videos look great, there are a few specific tips that could have a big impact on how they turn out.

Record at a High Resolution to Increase your Options

It goes without saying that recording at a high resolution will produce videos with better quality and definition. But what you may not realize is that it can also increase your options.

That is especially the case if you record at a higher resolution than you need to output your videos. For example if you record in 4K but only need to output the video in 1080p it will give you more room to stabilize the video, crop it to improve the composition or zoom in, and so on.

In short, you’ll have more options that you can use to make your business video looking much better and more professional.

Keep the Camera Steady

While you can stabilize your video footage during post-production, it is better if you are able to keep it stable in the first place. The steadier your camera is, the sharper the video footage will look and the less likely it will be to have any motion blur.

If you’re holding the camera in your hands you should try to keep it close to you while gripping it with both hands. The additional support you can get by keeping your upper arms near your sides will make it easier to hold the camera steady while you record.

Of course, nothing quite beats using a tripod stand to keep the camera steady. It is definitely something you will want to consider if you’re going to be recording business videos regularly and if you want to be able to pan and tilt steadily as well.

Make Sure the Lighting is Good

Good lighting is one of the most important factors if you want your videos to look sharp. In most business videos it is important for the scenes you record to be well lit, and preferably have diffused light so that there aren’t many dark shadows.

If you’re on a budget you can DIY a basic softbox or two that should do the trick. However, if you can afford it you could invest in some decent lighting, particularly if you plan on shooting business videos regularly.

Outdoor lighting can be a bit tougher to crack as you’ll have little control over the sun. That being said you may want to try to time your shoot for the golden hour as the light tends to be diffused, directional, and perfect for recording videos.

Vary the Footage Angles

Assuming it is feasible, you should try to vary the footage that you record between wide angle, medium, and close-up shots. Having that diversity will make your business video look much more impressive and sharp when you put it together.

On top of that having varied footage will help you to avoid jump cuts later on. If you record your business video with a single camera and from a fixed perspective it is difficult to avoid jump cuts, whereas with more varied footage you can cut to a different perspective instead.

All of this is best planned out in advance however, and by the time you start rolling you should know exactly what type of footage you want to record.

Keep in mind that the post-production will play an important part in how sharp your business videos look too, and you should use it to improve your videos. For example you could use a MOV editor such as Movavi Video Editor.

At the end of the day recording sharp, professional-looking, and impressive business videos can be difficult, and it will take time and planning – as well as good execution. That being said the more you practice and try to improve your business videos, the more you’ll learn what is required to make them look impressive.
