How To Write Magnetic Content For Your Target Market

How To Write Magnetic Content

How To Write Magnetic Content

Have you ever answered a phone call and found yourself talking to telemarketer?

Most of us hate that. Don’t we?

But why do we hate having to talk to a telemarketer?

Because we know that all they are interested in is selling us something.

They don’t care about who we are, and what we really need. Their only goal is to sell us whatever it is they are calling about.

Well, if you don’t like telemarketers, why do you do the same thing with your online content on your website or blog?

Maybe the reason why you’re not able to attract your ideal client is because your site/blog sounds like a telemarketer, rather than a smart business owner who can solve his or her potential customers’ needs.

So, how do you stop sounding like telemarketer who doesn’t care about his customers and become someone whose potential customers will fall in love with?

Well, it’s not that hard…

By twisting your content in such a way that they will get the message that while you are a business owner looking to generate an income with your customers’ business, you do have very high ethical standards and want the best for them.

Because you need to remember that at the end of day, people want to do business with you for them, not for you.

If your content is all about you and how great your product or service is compare to others out there, but you’re forgetting to address the needs of your visitors, by showing them what you can do for them, there is no reason why they would choose you over any of your competitors.

Here are some pointers to help you write magnetic content for your target market, and show your potential customers that you are a real human being behind your business, and why they should want to do business with you.

Listen to the Needs of your Potential Customer

A couple of days ago I made a phone call to a storage company in my neighborhood, because I going to need some space to pack the essential of my belongings before flying to Europe for a while.

What I liked right way about the person I was speaking with was his good listening skills.

He understood right away what I wanted and even told me that I needed something smaller than I thought.

He shopped around for me (online) and sent me to the best money saving facility in town, and reserved my spot until next Saturday without me making any down payment, and before I make my final decision.

This guy is very good at what he does, but it all started, because he’s a good listener.

In order to attract customers and clients, the first thing that you need to do is make sure that you listen to them well enough, so you’ll know what they need.  If you do this you’ll be better able to offer the perfect suggestions to them, and they will love you for it.

The best way to create content on your blog that will show to your potential customers that you’re a good listener is by watching closely the comments and suggestions your receive on your blog, and the questions that you may be getting through emails.

Pay close attention to those and address them on a regular basis in your business blog content.

Provide Quality and Value

No matter what you are selling; a physical product, a digital product or a service, what’s going to keep you in business is the quality of your work and how much value you provide.

Even if your business has been in existence for years, but suddenly the quality you’ve been providing so far was going down the drain, it wouldn’t be long before your customers realize that and leave you for one of your competitors while making sure they tell everyone around why they are leaving you.

So, quality is a must.

But how do show that through your content?

You show that quality and value is of importance to you by giving free advice that people can get just by landing on your blog.

Don’t worry, you do have plenty of valuable information that you could write about without giving your business away.

This is an excellent way to provide quality and value to your potential customer or client.

And if you don’t know how to do this, remember that I can do it for you…

I write in a way that people will fall in love with your product

Solve a Problem

The base of any business is that they solve a problem.

As long as your business solves a problem for someone, you will have business.

For example, with my freelance writing I solve several problems for my clients and potential clients.

  • I can write epic content for you
  • I can write in a way that people will fall in love with you product
  • I can write on schedule so you don’t have to worry about missing a week
  • I can make sure your article includes the right keywords
  • I can make sure that the potential client can clearly see the value that you’re bringing to them
  • I can make sure that your blog posts don’t ever sound like a desperate telemarketer
  • I can make sure that your article is speaking to your specific marketing avatar
  • I can pull a thousand word article in 15 minutes. After that is all about editing the first daft.

These are just a few things that I do as a freelance writer which solves my clients’ problems.

What problem do YOU solve?

Always make sure that the message is clear about what problem you solve for your potential customer. You don’t want to attract the whole world to your business, but you do want to attract specific individuals who need your specific products or services.

Offer Stellar Customer Service

Your job doesn’t end once you get a new customer or client. Far from it.

You have to be willing to offer stellar customer service, making sure that you are available to help your customers along the way by answering their questions or addressing their concerns.

An outstanding customer service is going to be your best bet for repeat business, and referrals for more business.

Customer service starts right at your blog.

Make sure that you have your blog comments enable, so people can not only ask questions but even communicate with each other as well as learn from replies to other comments.  The comment area of your blog works pretty much like a forum, and it’s very valuable to your online presence and your business as a whole.

Needless to say that you have to reply to the comments on your blog in a timely manner. If you can’t do it yourself, then it’s important that you put someone in charge of that.

This is how you can show your first time visitors that you are serious about customer service, answering questions and concerns as well as giving advice when necessary.

Offer Guarantees

The reason you always hear things like “we’ll give you a 60 day guarantee” in those infomercials or at the bottom of those long sales pages is because potential customers and clients love to have a guarantee that what they’re paying for is worth their money, and just in case it doesn’t work out they can get their money back.

Whatever business you’re in you are not always going to be able to guarantee everything, right?

But you are going to be able to guarantee some of the things you provide.

For example, I can guarantee you the 8 listed items above as writer, but I can’t guarantee you how many clients my article will bring you, or how many customers you will be able to get with such and such blog post, because those are things that are impossible to guarantee.

It’s the same thing with your own business. You’re not going to be able to guarantee what’s impossible to guarantee, but you really need to make people feel at ease by guaranteeing what you can.

Your Turn…

So, what do you  have to say about all that?

Are you a business owner who could use some help writing magnetic content for your target market?

If so, let me know.

Or lead the conversation bellow…

I write in a way that people will fall in love with your product

  1. Hi Sylviane,

I, too, hate talking with some telemarketers who never mind asking what I need or want, who never bother to ask who I am and head directly to selling their products instead. This had given me an idea how to talk and communicate with my clients. It is really important that you keep your prospect client’s interest for you to be able to market your product or service effectively. And one way I know to do this is by making your clients feel they are important to you, that you value their needs and wants and not just marketing for the sake of selling your product.

Anyway, this is definitely another epic article you shared. I really feel great every time I visit your blog because I always get to read something fresh and interesting. Thanks Sylviane.

    1. Hi Dennis,

Wow, so glad to hear that you feel great when you read my posts. That’s fantastic.

Yes, those telemarketers don’t care about who they call, because we’re just numbers for them. Literally. And that shows. What’s funny is that if they were smarter they might want to try a different approach and be much more successful than they are.

So glad you enjoy this information, and thank you for coming. I by coming by in a few.

  2. Hi Sylviane,

Absolutely agree with all that you wrote 🙂

Writing for your readers is the key I would say, and if you are able to do that, you connect with them, and that’s just what works in the blogosphere. Why? Because through your writing you help solve your readers problems, and that makes them coming back, asking for more.

I know it works as I’ve tried and tested it on my blog, and perhaps that’s the one thing that’s always worked for me too. There is no substitute for providing quality and value, and that’s what makes your work stand out from the rest, isn’t it? Loved the points as mentioned. 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    1. Hi Harleena,

Yes, we need to be listening carefully to what our market wants and need and we will be right on it with our content.

I know that you do that on your blog. You ask people what they want and then give it to them in your articles. That’s how it works.

Thanks for sharing your input here, and have a great day.

  3. Hi Sylviane,

Listening is an art as some people say. But it is the most important thing to do before writing a blog post. We need to listen to our readers and commenters and also on the social sites we are involved with. There are always people wanting to know specific information.

All we have to do is give it to them. May sound like an easy task, but it takes some time to learn how to do it well. No, we cannot give away the farm…but always be providing content that solves a problem.

Sometimes we can share our own story of a problem we have had and how we solved it. Oh boy do people love that! As long as we are getting a good conversation going in our comment section, we know we are on the right path.

Thanks for your excellent advice as usual,

    1. Hi Donna,

I’ve always been a good listener and that’s why I notice that a lot of people don’t listen, and that’s their loss. When you listen, you learn a lot. I don’t know if this is something I was born with (probably to a degree) but it was emphasized in my acting studies so I’ve got to use that the most I can.

Oh, yes, people love a good true story that can help them in any way. It always works well.

Thanks for coming by, my friend.

  4. I really love what you’ve shared here Sylviane!

And your comments about our blogs and presentations of any kind, in general, being like a telemarketer, is just too hilarious!

But sadly, at times it’s most definitely true! And I also like where you shared about commenting being like a mini forum area on our blogs.

I’ve never heard it described that way before! And that’s a really practical way of looking at it!

Thanks for sharing so many excellent and extremely critical points!

    1. Hi Mark,

Well, I did take the illustration with the telemarketer, because some sites and even blogs do sound just like one 🙂

Yes, a comment thread on a blog is actually just like a forum in many ways. I love when people communicate with each others.

Just this past week, I had an hilarious typo on my post, and a cartoonist blogging friend of mine just started laughing and being the cartoonist that he is in his comment, and then another blogger friend came and replied to him, and then I replied again to both… and so on. That was a lot of fun, but what I’m saying here is that the same can happen with serious stuff. the discussion is always open. At times the comment thread can become way more interesting than the post itself.

So glad you enjoyed the post and thank you for coming.

  5. Another great post in this series – I’m finding that when I write a “better” headline I’m actually simply following your advice. Above all else – keeping it reader focused helps alot even if its a mediocre headline.

    1. Hi Melisa,

Yes, headlines are important, no doubt, but it’s very important to keep our promises of the headline in the content of the article, because at times the content in the article is not nearly as good as the headline.

So something to keep in mind.

      Thanks for your input

  6. Hi Slyviane,
    great post!
    I agree with your points.

It’s all about understanding your audience and provide value, with content that solves needs or gives solutions to problems.

  7. Hi Sylviane,

I loved the introduction of this post. I have not come across “telemarketing” association with blog content. But you are absolutely right! When I think of some blogs and their content, they do sound like telemarketers.

I think sometimes bloggers forget why they are online, even if their initial intention was right. They stop providing value and suddenly their blog is all about them, about making money and not about the customer or a reader.

I really believe that our visitors come to us because they are looking for answers and as bloggers it is our responsibility to give it to them.

Yes, we blog because we want to make money with our blogs or our courses we may advertise on our blog.

But if we do not cater to our customers or readers we will never earn any money. The keyword is EARN.

    1. Hi Dita,

So true. Yes, off course, our visitors come to us because they are looking for answers and as a blogger that’s what I’m trying to provide on my blog. For example as far as this category is concerned my potential client is a business owner who needs to have a blog, but has no idea how to go about it and what or how to write.

I’m actually working on several marketing avatars as we call them, but this is part of one my avatars.

When people are browsing online, they are looking for help, they are not looking, for who you are and what you do, but what you can do for them. I think that has long the blogger won’t understand that, he or she won’t be successful.

Great input, Dita, and thanks so much for coming by.

  8. Hi Sylviane,

Telemarketers. Like that opening, and you are of course right. Not sure if it’s the same where you live, but in the UK there is one immediate giveaway that a telemarketer is calling. You answer the phone and there is like a 3 or 4 second delay before they speak (I guess it’s the software they are using). A lot of the time, I have hung up before they get a chance to speak and it’s precisely the reason you describe – they are selling and they don’t have me as their number one concern.

Really like that intro Sylviane, good stuff, and it really got me thinking about my blog and how it appears to others who are landing on there for the first time.

Some great tips here as well. I use a lot of them for my eBooks/video courses, but not so many of them for my blog (though some aren’t applicable).

The biggest one for me is listening to my audience, and also listening to other peoples audience. A question in a comment often leads me to writing a blog post answering that question – I figure if they have a question, so will others too!

Smart post, sharing this out now.
Richard Martin invites you to read..The Brown Nosed Blogger EpidemicMy Profile

    1. Hi Richard,

Well I had to tweet a small portion of what you said here. Your comment made me do a little dance for joy! 🙂

Yes, in the US too, we have a couple seconds of silence before a telemarketer is about to speak, and yes, like you that’s when I know how to hang up.

I have never had the feeling that your blog sounds like a telemarketer, Richard, but I can tell you that some blogs do. Actually there is that guy from the UK, who I think makes lots of money, though, but I can’t stand his blog, because it’s like a big sales page in the form of a blog. I’m wondering if this can still work today. I don’t think YOUR blog is anything like his, because your content is great.

Yes, it’s very important to listen to our audience and use any tool we can for that. As Enstine Muki was saying in a recent post of his even a heat map can help us identifying what people are looking for.

Thank you for your excellent input.

  9. Hey Sylviane,

Telemarketers surely don’t listen LOL. I use to be one and I hated it. Glad those days are over!

I think Listen is really important when it comes to your audience. If you want them to keep coming back and build a great reputation then listening is key. They know that you were listening when you use their questions and concerns on the next blog topic you do.

One thing I would add is giving your audience direction, especially the newcomers. I had a bad experience with a rep with a printer repair company. He was so bad that I really thought that he was trying to sabotage the owners business because he didn’t want to give me any directions on who I can speak to for my model printer. But giving your newbies direction through the uses of CTAs goes a long way and it shows that you either like to hear their opinions or you want to update them on more valuable information that’s going to help them.

Thanks Sylviane for sharing! You have a good one!

    1. Hi Sherman,

Yes, of course direction is very important. We can help our clients or customers to make the best choice.

I know what you mean, anyone who has been a telemarketer hated it and anyone who has got a telemarketer’s call hated it too. Telemarketing sucks both ways. One day it will be all gone, I’m sure.

Thanks so much for your input.

  10. Hi Sylviane,

I quit answering the phone years ago if I don’t recognize a number. I haven’t spoken to a telemarketer because of that in years. From time to time I’ll get those recordings though and then I’ll instantly go and block their number. You are right, they are SO irritating because today they are recordings and not even a human being.

I haven’t run across content in a while that’s doing nothing but trying to sell me. I guess I’ve been hanging around in the right circles and that’s a very good thing. But I remember the day and I know they’re still out there.

It’s taken me some time to understand how this all works and that’s one of the reasons I haven’t been comfortable doing certain things online. I’m taught to do one thing but since I don’t like that myself I’m not going to do something I wouldn’t want someone doing to me. I think if most would think like that then this would come more naturally to them wouldn’t you think?

It is a process though and takes time to learn so I would hope that if anyone is reading this post and needs some help that they will reach out and ask for it. We all had to learn right! It is possible when you just listen to what people want.

Thanks for the post and great job my friend. Hope you’re enjoying your week.

    1. Hi Adrienne,

I haven’t been on the phone with a telemarketer for a long while too, but I thought this example would illustrate my point perfectly, because nobody like them, and it’s usually for one main big reason; they are ONLY interested in your money.

Well, there are still some of those blogs out there. Do you remember that British guy who started those hangout/blog commenting groups a couple years ago? Well, I had a very hard time commenting on his blog, because that’s all his blog was. A big selling thing. There are still blogs like that, but I don’t read them either.

There are many so called experts/gurus that would want to make you say and do things that I’ve never felt like doing either, so I totally agree with what you’re saying, Adrienne. I’m the same way. Nothing’s better than being real and truthful.

Thanks for your input, my friend.

  11. Ciao, Sylviane,

I couldn’t agree more with everything you shared, my friend! Being in touch with my readers’ pain points and being able to speak in their language in the key to relationship building and ultimately helping them. Love what I do so much, it’s a joy to satisfy a need, that’s for sure.

That’s the human element – and that’s what we need to do, keep it human, not robotic and keyword focused. I share content and communicate to humans, not for the search engines.

Giving valuable and relevant content is such a simple thing when you think about it, but is sure does take a lot of work.

Great read, Sylviane – am sharing this out….

    Have a lovely day.

    1. Hi Carol,

Yes, you said it well carol, we should write for humans and not for search engines, which by the way, is what internet marketers used to do a lot in the past before Google got tired of them and did that slap thing.

I’m so glad this is over, though, and we can concentrate on quality and people will love us for that.

Thanks for coming and sharing, my friend.

  12. Hi Sylviane,

    Great points as always.

Regarding telemarketing, when I first started in Network Marketing, I was told by my upline to cold call people and it is a number game. Every 10 or so calls, you will find someone to listen and sign-up with you. I was so desperate at that time and I was ready to try everything. So, every morning I used to set myself up to call about 20-30 people. I did it for 2 weeks everyday and of course no one signed up and let me tell you, I came out of this experience more frustrated and for a while I had respect for telemarketers as I experienced what they go through. I got people who hanged up on me, people who called me names. Sometimes, I used to leave a message and I get calls back with nasty messages and so on…. LOL. But now that I understand the concept of attraction marketing, I know why people treated me that way and they had all the right, as they don’t know me.

You are so right, we need to provide value first for people to know, like and trust us before they can buy from us and of course listening is a huge factor as people like to be heard, and to know how to solve their problem, we need to listen to it first and know what their frustrations are to be able to solve their problem the right and effective way. I liked the example you used about the person from the storage company. He valued you as a customer and listened to your need and provided you with the best service.

Thanks Sylviane for always sharing your golden nuggets with us. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Yes, tell me about it. I started online as a network marketer, and was told the same thing, but like you, by the time I was done with this I was more frustrated and depressed than when I started. This was very bad advice, and shame on so called experts giving them.

Nobody likes to buy from strangers, we must do our best to build those know like and trust relationships.

I’m happy you enjoyed this information, and that you don’t have to call call anyone, anymore 😉

  13. Hi Sylviane, indeed I have been called up by quite a few telemarketers, pretty irritating they are. Nice how you relate them to bad writing on the blog, really liked it.
When are you off to Europe?
Of course, if one wants to get good customers and retain them, one has to pay attention to their needs and it all starts with being a good listener, I totally agree with you.
True, if one gets customer or potential customers and if the product or service is no good, of what use are these customers?
    Enjoy your weekend.
    Take care.

    1. Hi Veena,

Yes, no one likes those telemarketers, because most of them don’t like what they do either, and companies hiring them don’t know how to approach people the right way.

I’m living for Europe mid-May. Very excited and can wait at this point.
